Empower Her: A New Initiative for the Economic Empowerment of Rural Women

Published: 1.11.2024

ProCredit Bank Georgia is committed to advancing women's economic empowerment through multi-dimensional approaches and cross-sectoral collaborations. With a strong emphasis on creating impactful partnerships rooted in principles of empowerment, ProCredit Bank continually supports initiatives that foster positive changes for women and their communities, exemplifying successful cooperation between the private and non-governmental sectors.

One such initiative is Empower Her, a collaborative project developed by ProCredit Bank, UN Women, and Fondi Tasso. This initiative is specifically designed to support rural women in achieving economic independence. Under this program, Fondi Tasso will select candidates from rural areas through a rigorous social mobilization process. Once selected, these women will receive specialized business training funded by ProCredit Bank. This project aims to equip 80 women across Georgia with the skills and knowledge needed to pursue self-employment, initiate income-generating activities, and expand or establish small businesses.

"The project aims to boost the participation of rural women in business, encourage their entrepreneurial endeavors, enhance their self-confidence, and foster a culture of collaboration. As a development-focused bank committed to European values and inclusivity, we consider this a priority," said Zeinab Lomashvili, Member of the Board of Directors and Director of ProCredit Bank.

The Empower Her initiative is launched under the framework of a Memorandum of Understanding recently signed between ProCredit Bank and UN Women.

Kaori Ishikawa, UN Women's Representative in Georgia, added, "This partnership with ProCredit Bank and Fondi Tasso enables us to empower rural women through business training, equipping them with the skills to achieve economic independence, reinforce family stability, and enhance community resilience."

ProCredit Bank Georgia and its partners are committed to creating more opportunities for women and increasing the number of successful female entrepreneurs. This collective effort brings the country closer to gender equality, ensuring inclusivity becomes a core value within small and medium-sized business practices.
